Hart Plaza
Originally planned as a grassy lawn area in 1924, it wasn’t until the 70’s that Hart Plaza was conceptualized and brought to life by Isamu Noguchi. Hart Plaza has become, almost unintentionally, a tribute to the strength of people - memorials in the plaza include “Gateway to Freedom”, recognizing Detroit’s role in helping emancipated slaves into Canada, and “Transcending”, a giant arch celebrating American Labor. What this is all means for Movement is a palpable energy in the air. Whether in the amphitheater, next to the river, or enjoying the massive underground bunker, we are not separate from our past, from our tactile environment - we are in the continuum.

- NEW Stage! Detroit Stage presented by JARS features an all-Detroit lineup of veterans, rising talent, and newcomers,
- NEW Underground Stage location! The new Underground Stage location offers music fans an enhanced "warehouse experience" and is located right around the corner from the previous location, but now 2X bigger and with over 120 linear feet of wide open entry and exit into the space.
- Stargate Stage is distinctly Detroit, with lifelong friends sound-tracking a city-wide block party.
- Located amongst the trees, the Waterfront Stage showcases myriad styles; Funk, Hip-Hop, Breakbeats, Ghettotech, it’s all welcome here.
- The Pyramid Stage, positioned opposite the Waterfront Stage along the river, is the perfect summer backdrop.
- The Movement Stage, located in the amphitheater, is the crown jewel. Here is where you’ll see the big players, the legends, and those who have earned their stripes.

Multifaceted Detroit artist Sheefy McFly brings his “Movement 2022” installation to Hart Plaza for this year’s Artist-In-Residence program in partnership with 1XRUN & Ooze. The installation is a vibrant reflection of Sheefy's perspective of Detroit dance parties from the DJ booth to the dance floor, featuring a large scale mural, multiple life-sized sculptures, and live activations with JIT dancers during Movement weekend. Catch Sheefy’s “Movement 2022” installation at the Pyramid Amphitheater, located near the Pyramid Stage.
